  • Hiking is a great family activity when visiting the hills.
    • Devils Bathtub in Spearfish Canyon – from Spearfish turn onto Highway 14A (Spearfish Scenic Highway) and go south for about 10 minutes until you see Cleopatra Place.  About 1/4 of a mile past Cleopatra Place turn into the parking lot designated for Devil’s Bathtub.
    • Cathedral Spire’s Trail Suter State Park – The main trailhead is located along the Needles Highway (Hwy. 87), approximately 2.5 miles east of Sylvan Lake.
    • Mt Roosevelt Friendship Tower in Deadwood – To get to Mt. Roosevelt, take US Hwy 85, northbound, leaving Deadwood. Travel 1.5 miles, turn onto FSR 133. There will be a 2 mile mark and a sign for the Mt. Roosevelt picnic area where the trailhead begins, and the bathroom will be located. The hike to the Friendship Tower and overlook is less than one mile from the trailhead, but moderately uphill.
